Community

The Town of Harwich is located on the southern coastline of Cape Cod. While cranberry farming and fishing are still native occupations, the economy is primarily supported by tourism, which increases the year round population of 12,500 to over 37,000 in the summer months.

School

Harwich High School, accredited by the New England Association of Secondary Schools, is a four-year comprehensive high school with an enrollment of 430 students.The small size of Harwich High School affords a close connection between students and faculty and an ability to individualize instruction to meet student needs.

Graduation Requirements

Twenty-four (24)* academic credits are required for graduation and are distributed as follows:

Class Rank

Rank is computed at the end of the sixth semester.  All subjects are included in the rank.  All courses are weighted for the purpose of calculating rank and grade point average.  AP courses receive the highest weight (+20%), followed by honors (+10%), finally followed by all other included courses. Our GPA figures correspond to UMass guidelines.


Marking System

Grades are awarded on a numerical basis: 90-100 (A), 80-89 (B), 70-79 (C), 60-69 (D), below 60 (not passing).  Students must obtain a 50 or better to be eligible to obtain credit during summer school.  High honors: average of 90 or above with no grade below 85.  Honors: average of 85 or above with no grade below 80.
