Fill out applications for selected schools (be sure to take tests required)
Solicit letters of recommendation early in the fall (2 faculty members)
Arrange to have test scores sent directly from the College Board
Athletes need to fill out the NCAA forms online to play in college
All seniors should meet with counselor once or several times to fine tune all of this
Harwich Guidance Office Procedures
Each application must have a (gold) cover sheet that is available in our office
Teacher recommendations should be sent in to Guidance or carried in to
Guidance
Questionaires should be filled out for a Guidance Recommendation (these are in the office)
All applications must be handed in 2 weeks or more before the due date
Applications due on January 1 must be in by December 7 due to high volume and vacation break
Counselors will place recommendations transcripts and test scores with applications
The Guidance Office will package and mail the applications by the deadline
This process gives the counselors a good chance to review and assist with problems
Financial Aid
Financial Aid has its own deadlines at each school
All students should complete the federal form FAFSA at the financial aid website
The FAFSA cannot be sent before January 1
Some students need to fill out a 2nd form called Profile at the collegeboard
We will host a Finacial Aid night in early December, with a speaker from
MEFA, for assistance with forms
With good aid, a private school may not cost much more than a state school
Scholarships come primarily from the school you attend
The state Adams Scholarship notices are mailed directly to recipients
Local scholarships for smaller amounts are available mainly Feb - April
