Your primary concerns this year include becoming familiar with your surroundings
and finding success in your classrooms. Your guidance counselors may assist you
with future plans, course selections, personal matters, and much more. If you
are unsure about what you will be doing after high school, see your counselor.
You can review your records and explore your interests. Please be aware that you
do not have to wait until you are called to the guidance office to discuss
matters with your counselor. If you want to speak with him or her, stop by the
guidance office and request an appointment. Counselor assignments are generally
based on students’ last names:
Creating a Successful Transition from Middle School to High School

for the incoming Freshman Class
Students Should:
- Do not make to big of a deal about the transition from Middle school to High school you are with most of your friends and everyone is very nice.
- Get involved with in an activity, it doesn’t have to be a sport but do something that interests you.
- Keep yourself organized.
- Make sure you manage your time wisely.
- Don’t be afraid to ask your teachers for help with both in and out of school problems.
- Take courses that you are interested in, you don’t have to take what your friends are taking.
- Make sure that you have respect for the other people in the school.
- Keep up with all of your assignments.
- Try and get to know some of the upperclassmen they can help you.
- Make sure you follow the dress code.
- Don’t be afraid of the changes in your schedule.
- Always try to stay positive and persevere.
- Use the tools that you were given on the first day of school (agenda).
- Make sure that you talk to you parents if you are having a problem because even though it may not seem like it, they have gone through the same issues.
- Go to any events that are specifically for the freshman before school begins.
- Do not provoke any fights or drama because in the end you will also be in trouble.
- Don’t give in to peer pressure it will never work in your benefit.
- Try getting involved in a study group.
Parents and Guardians:
- Don’t pressure your kids into something that they don’t want to do; trust their judgment.
- Make sure you encourage them, High School is challenging and sometimes they may need a friend more than a parent.
- If you want to be involved in your child’s school, make sure you discuss how your going to be involved with your son/daughter.
- Try and talk to them to keep your connection strong.
- If something is important to your child see how you can get involved with them.
- If your child is struggling in school talk to his or her teacher and see what you can do at home to help.
