Rise Up Reading!

HES launched a school-wide reading incentive program, titled Rise Up Reading, which began with the goal of reading 1,000 books before the Winter Break. Students keep track of the books read on reading logs, which are signed by their parents. In the first stage of this reading incentive program, the students surpassed the preliminary reading goal and read a total of 1, 850 books!

Students wrote persuasive essays aimed at convincing Mr. Hein to dress up as one of their favorite characters. Following is the list of characters chosen:

Wilbur the Pig from Charlotte’s Web—Halley B. (gr.3)

Ruth Rose from A-Z Mysteries The Absent Author –Cecelia K. (gr.1)

The Cat In The Hat from Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham –Sean G. (K)

Nancy Drew from The Nancy Drew Mysteries –Maya K. (gr.2)

A new goal of 3,000 books read before winter vacation is well on the way to being reached. As of Monday, February 4th, an additional 1500 books have been read. We are halfway there!! The Rise Up Reading program will continue for the remainder of the school year, check back for more updates!
