SCHOOL-BUSINESS COMMITTEE

I'd like to begin with a dose of gratitude for the members of the
Harwich Chamber of Commerce who have so generously volunteered their time and resources this past year to the Harwich  School District.

It's been a pleasure serving as the chair of the
Harwich Chamber of Commerce's School-Business Committee. Those currently serving on this board include: Donna Wood Eaton (Cedar Spring Herb Farm), Nancy Moran (Moran Engineering, Inc.), and Judi Shank (Capes Winds By The Sea). In addition, we'd like to welcome two new members: Tom Blute (Henry T. Crosby and Son Monuments) and Colleen Ormsby (Snow and Thomson Ins.)

Some of the group's accomplishments include: establishing a $2,400 mini-Grant program for the teachers to use in collaboration with members of the community as a way to encourage collaboration and build capacity, sponsoring a $5,000 4-year scholarship for a Harwich graduate, and coordinating a "Tour of the Town" and welcome bag to our new teachers and administrators.

In the past we've provided assistance in the schools as needed (e.g., science fair judges in the middle school, lending a hand with the elementary school's move, identifying guest speakers, supplies and mentors…) We hope to build a stronger collaboration with the schools and businesses and, as always, welcome your ideas and support.

Next Meeting:  June 22, 2005 Chamber Information Center Board Room, 8:45 am
