The Alternative Education Program offers a “self-contained” vocationally oriented approach to the high school experience. Students take English, science, social studies and math in the alternative program classroom setting. They learn through an exploration of the world around them as well as through course work. Life skill training, vocational preparation, and social skill development are also part of the curriculum.
The program population is limited and entrance is through a team recommendation after the recommendation of the guidance department and/or administration. Students must maintain satisfactory academic, behavioral and attendance standards including maintaining a job or job shadowing assignment to remain in the program. Many of the participants have not found success in traditional classroom settings. The mission statement of the program is:
