Roscoe Conkling
1829 -1888; American lawyer and public official.
Originally a Whig member in politics, he quickly became a member of the Republican party in the 1850s.
1858 - Elected to House of Representatives, and, except for one term (1863-65), he stayed there until his election to the US Senate in 1867.
