Potato Famine
In Ireland, the potato was the most prominent food and when the famine hit it greatly reduced the population of Ireland and caused people to emigrate to America.
In 1845- 1847 the potato crop failed because of the plant disease.
Over 750,000 people died died because of disease or starvation.
