II. Complete
1.) High in hte mountains, Richard checked the pressure of his car tires and observed that
they had 202.5 kPa of pressure. That morning, the temperature was -19.0oC. Richard
then drove all day, traveling through the desert in the afternoon. The temperature of the tires
increased to 75.0oC because of the hot roads. What was the new tire pressure?
(Volume remained Constant) What is the percent increase in pressure? [ans: 277kPa]
2.) A quantity of gas exerts a pressure of 98.6 kPa at a temperature of 22.0oC.
If the volume remains unchanged, what temperature will it exert at a pressure of 88.6 kPa. [ans: -3oC]
3.) A balloon is placed in apressure chamber. Its volume and pressure are 0.857 dm3
and 101.3 kPa. The temperature of the chamber is 37oC. What is the balloons new volume
if the pressure chamber's pressure is decreased to 48.3 kPa and the temperature drops to
23oC. [ans: 1.7 dm3]
4.) When measured at STP, a quantity of gas has a volume of 500 dm3. what Volume
will it occupy at 0oC and 93.3 kPa> [ans: 542.8 dm3]
5.) Iron(II) sulfide reacts with hydrochloric acid as follows:
FeS(s) + 2HCl(aq) --> FeCl2(aq) + H2S(g)
What volume of H2S, measured at 30oC and 95.1 kPa, will be produced when 132g of FeS reacts
{atomic mass fe=56 s=32 h=1} [ans: 39.7 dm3]
6.) How many grams of zinc (Zn) reacts with an excess of hydrochloric acid to produce a volume of
14.8 dm3 of hydrogen gas (H2) at a temperature of 25oC and a pressure of 98.3 kPa?
{atomic mass Zn=65 H=1 Cl=35.5} [ans: 38.2]
