Welcome to the Harwich Elementary School Courtyard Garden Project Homepage! We are entering our third year and are quite proud of the accomplishments of this school-community project.
Our project began when we applied for and received a $1,200 grant from the Harwich Chamber of Commerce's School-Business Partnership Committee. Our community partner was Donna Wood-Eaton from Cedar Spring Herb Farm and, with her guidance and support, we mapped out and constructed several thematic regions of the school's interior courtyard. Countless volunteers and many local businesses contributed to the success of this living-learning space and we are indeed grateful for their on-going support and encouragement.
This site consists of an herb garden, butterfly garden, bird sanctuary and raised beds for various grade levels to use as they see fit. This fall the third graders will maintain and harvest a "Three Sisters" garden of corn, beans and squash.
We are currently working on the completion of a water garden with a solar powered pump to support our energy efficiency and environmental awareness.
