A Trip to the Cranberry Bog

On Thursday, October 8th the kindergarten children spent the morning at  a local cranberry bog.    We listened to the owner, Leo Cakounes tell us how he picks his bogs.  He showed us some of the equipment that he uses.  We were able to take a walk onto a bog and look at the vines and the cranberries close up.

We saw how he cleans the cranberries the have been picked.  The picture below show a box (on the left) of cranberries that have not had the vines removed and a a box (on the right) of cleaned cranberries.

We enjoyed at snack on the bog with our classes and had a chance to visit some of the animals.

Each child was given a bucket of cranberries to bring home.  The classroom teachers brought back some cranberries for their classrooms.
