How Parents Can Help
Children Learn

- Help your child get a library/CLAMS card.
- Make regular visits to the library.
- Look through your child's schoolwork with
him/her. Let your child tell you about his/her work.
- Listen to your child read.

- Read to your child whenever you can!
- Establish a reading time at home for your child. It
would be great if everyone could be reading
during this home reading time.
- Watch a television show together and evaluate the show.

- Teach your child how to make an emergency phone call.
- Help your child learn his/her address and phone number.
- Play board games with your child.

- Help your child start a collection of rocks, stamps,old toys...anything of
interest!!
- Write notes to your child.
- Give your child his/her own calendar.
- Subscribe to a children's magazine for your child.
- Help your child cook something; work together reading
the directions, getting the ingredients and eating the treat.
- Show your child the location of your home on a map.
- When on a trip, help your child collect post cards,
brochures, maps etc.

- Make a scrapbook or journal of the trip.
- Help your child write notes, cards, and letters to
friends and relatives.
- Take nature walks together. Take a camera along
and make a nature scrapbook.

- Remember to play games, bake cookies, laugh and have
fun together......your child is a treasure with unlimited
potential! Enjoy!
